The Odesa Zoo works even without electricity: lectures by candlelight, pets at the employees’ homes

The de-energized Odesa Zoo is open and welcomes visitors. But the main task of the zoo team is to preserve the collection of animals even in such extremely difficult conditions.
It is good that the Zoo prepared in advance for an extreme situation. potbelly stoves were purchased and installed. There is a supply of firewood for stoves. So, a lot of work was added to the employees. After all, you have to constantly heat numerous stoves, add fuel to boilers that work around the clock.
In case there is no power supply from the city, there are five power generators of different capacities.
Hard work fully pays off. Because it is possible to provide uninterrupted and proper heating of housing for heat-loving animals and aeration of water in the aquaterrarium.
And yet, some of the domestic animals, among those that were brought to the zoo at the beginning of the war, the employees had to sort through their homes.
In particular, tour guide Natalia Lazarenko took home Morty – an old naked rat.
Odessans do not lose their optimism. Therefore, even without electricity, Zoo Sсhool (course of lectures on keeping animals at home) are regularly held by candlelight in the zoo.
