Nature conservation work done in BION Terrarium Center

The basis of the nature protection and eco-educational activity of the BION Terrarium Center is a significant contribution to the development of world herpetoculture.
Currently, some people profess false ideas about herpetoculture, presenting it as a kind of negative phenomenon that competes the issue of preventing the extinction of species. Unfortunately, many extremist nature conservationists prefer to see the animal extinct in nature rather than agree with its keeping and breeding in zooculture. They stubbornly do not want to see the real picture of degradation of natural populations, against which the creation of reserve populations may become the only possible solution to stopping or at least delaying the species extinction.

Breeding statistics at the BION Terrarium Center for 2021
In Ukraine, BION Terrarium Center has been successfully operating and developing for over last 29 years. Today BION is a complex of Breeding Center, Reptile’s zoo and non profit «Responsible Zooculture» foundation, located in Kyiv and in a country. All animals undergo complete technological process of breeding – from raising captive bred juveniles to making breeding pairs/groups of adult, sexually mature animals. Breeding process is always recorded in a form of statistics, photo and video reports. The origin of breeding stock is well documented and meet all CITES requirements. We do our best to make our activity transparent. BION breeding news is regularly posted on Facebook with about 15,000 subscribers.

Since 1993 to present, 121 species of amphibians and reptiles were bred at the BION Terrarium Center. We developed techniques for ex situ breeding of many rare and popular species in laboratory conditions.

Responsible Zooculture/Responsible Herpetoculture is supported by CITES, IUCN & WAZA as an alternative to the exploitation of natural resources.

We hope that a new look at the issues of animals’ keeping and breeding will make it possible to re-evaluate the possibilities and role of herpetoculture in preserving the biological diversity of our planet.
