Lutsk Zoo helps the rehabilitation of military personnel

The Lutsk Zoo and the Medical Center for the Rehabilitation of Combatants cooperate for the rehabilitation of combatants.

The number of servicemen undergoing treatment in Lutsk or simply arriving on vacation has increased many times.

The Lutsk Zoo and the Medical Center for the Rehabilitation of Combatants invite military personnel and their families accompanied by psychologists to visit the zoo.

“Interaction with animals first of all works well with positive emotions, makes us mentally more stable. And it is especially effective when we have the effects of combat stress, with post-traumatic reactions. This kind of therapy is a good switch. It works through tactile sensations to calm down, ground, helps the military to be here and now”.

Lyubava Kazmirchuk, a psychologist at the Center for Medical Rehabilitation of Combatants

According to experts, interaction with animals first of all works well with positive emotions, makes people mentally more stable. And it is especially effective when you have to overcome the consequences of combat stress, post-traumatic reactions. Such therapy works well through tactile sensations for calming, grounding, helps the soldier to be here and now.

The psychologist assures that after such visits she always notices a noticeable change in her mood for the better. And if there is an opportunity to come to the zoo with the whole family, it has a positive effect on communication and helps to establish relationships.

“I observe the military often. And the best recognition of our work from them is that, even if the visit lasts for an hour or two, they leave with smiles. People were able to forget, switch gears, and rest their souls.”
