Lutsk Zoo: blackout is heavy stress, but the animals are alive and well

After the missile strikes, all regions of Ukraine experienced a blackout. Since November 23, electricity has been supplied to the Lutsk Zoo only twice a day. And even then – 2-3 hours only.
The lack of electricity made the life of the zoo extremely difficult. There are no other heating sources except electric heaters. And it is impossible to heat the premises with animals in a such short time. A large part of the collection suffers from the cold: monkeys, lemurs, parrots, reptiles and amphibians. Another species are constantly being added to this list. Even cooking has become a challenge.
It should be noted that the management of the zoo was preparing for such a scenario. The generators were purchased in advance. Unfortunately, difficult logistics are indicated. Such necessary equipment will have to wait for several more weeks.
Therefore, the zoo team works around the clock and shows maximum ingenuity to save their wards. Someone is heated with bottles filled with warm water. The primates received warm blankets. Possible threats and ways to overcome them are discussed and predicted.
Despite the blackout, all animals in the collection are currently alive and well thanks to the work of the Lutsk Zoo team.
We invite you to read an interview with the director of the Lutsk Zoo.
