The Association of Zoos of Ukraine is outraged by the destruction of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant dam by the occupying Russian troops and is extremely concerned about the situation that developed after this crime. Currently, it is still impossible to fully assess the damage that this crime caused to the population, economy, and environment of Southern Ukraine. Unfortunately, we can confidently talk about the enormous damage that has been caused to many ecosystems of the Kherson region.
It is obvious that the consequences of the brutal crime of the Russians will have to be overcome many years after the victory of Ukraine.
AZU expresses its concern about the fate of the animals in the flooding zone – both domestic and wild. Zoos of Ukraine are ready to accept and provide assistance to affected animals from the flood zone.
Most of the AZU institutions still keep a significant number of animals that came to them after the beginning of the full-scale Russian aggression. We are confident that our country and our society will overcome all disagreements, free Ukraine from invaders, and revive the nature of the Kherson Region.
